Breaking Ground
was filmed in Arizona September 1999 to June 2000. 3 min. loop, video
installation, 3 DVD's projected on 3 x 5 meter screens and Dolby surround
sound. The screens are angled 45 degrees and the audience is very close
            to the screens.
            We live for a while
out here in the Arizona desert, far away from civilization among coyotes
and rattlesnakes. Here we are taking in the sky - for us, a totally
new element, and we are learning to navigate through a world of changing
dimensions and perspectives. We are like birds hatching, and we are
in a state of curious confusion when ground rush meet us; a blurred
warning as this world goes buzzing by, straight down and right in front
of us...fear! The speed of flight contrasts dangerously with the lazy,
dry rhythm of the desert. Here, between colorful sunrises and sunsets,
we dream about soaring with the eagles. Easy and effortless flight...Yep!
              That old utopian dream!
